Bacon and Cheese Egg Bake

This strata recipe layers cubes of wheat bread, bacon, mozzarella and parmesan cheeses, and pours an egg-milk mixture over it all before baking.
 

Ingredients

  • 9 slices of wheat bread (butter and spread lightly with minced garlic)
  • 6 medium eggs
  • 6 strips of cooked bacon, drained & crumbled
  • 6 oz shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 oz grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 Tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 cup (skim) milk

Method

Cut bread into 1-inch pieces and sprinkle about two-thirds of the cubes into a 9x13" greased baking pan. Sprinkle 1/2 of the mozzarella cheese and 1/2 of the bacon over the bread. Add the remaining cubed bread, mozzarella cheese and bacon. Beat the eggs, milk, and mayonaisse together in a bowl. Pour over ingredients in the pan; press lightly to be sure all of the bread cubes are covered with the egg mixture. Cover with foil. Bake at 350 degrees for 1/2 hour. Uncover. Add the Parmesan cheese on top and Bake for another 1/4 to 1/2 hour or until set.
