Mix yeast with 1 tablespoon sugar and 1/2 cup warm water, then let stand for 5 minutes. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar and salt, then stir with a large spoon. Make a whole in the middle and add the remaining warm water. Mix with hands for a good 5 minutes. Let raise for 1 1/2 hours in a warm place. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
To make cinnamon rolls using this recipe, simply follow above directions, except before letting dough raise, let stand for only 5 minutes, then roll into a rectangular shape. Spread melted butter over entire area and add cinnamon and sugar. Roll up very tight and cut into pieces. Then raise for 1 1/2 hours.
