Sourdough Croutons

Seasoned with oregano, thyme, and pepper, these homemade croutons make any tossed salad seem extra-special.
 

Ingredients

  • 2 cups 1-inch sourdough bread cubes
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano, crushed
  • 1 tsp. dried thyme, crushed
  • 1 tsp. pepper

Method

Place the bread cubes in a large bowl. In a small bowl combine oil with oregano, thyme, and pepper; drizzle over the bread cubes and toss to evenly distribute the oil. Spread the coated bread cubes on a cookie sheet large enough to hold the cubes in a single layer. Bake for 20 minutes in a 300 degree oven or until the crountons are light brown and very crisp, tossing twice. Remove from oven; let cool. Use at once or store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
