Ultimate French Toast with Fresh Strawberry Topping

French bread stuffed with cream cheese and almond extract, then dipped in a blend of egg, cream, and cinnamon, and cooked in butter.

  • Servings: 12 to 14 slices


½ cup Sugar
3 Tbsp Cornstarch
16 oz Frozen Sliced Strawberries, thawed
½ cup Water
2– 3 cups sliced Fresh Strawberries
½ tsp Lemon Juice
1 Loaf French Bread
8 oz Cream Cheese, softened
1 tsp Almond Extract
8 Large or 9 Medium Eggs
2 cups Heavy Whipping Cream
1 cup Milk
4 tsp Cinnamon
1 tsp Vanilla


Prepare strawberry sauce first: In saucepan combine sugar and cornstarch; add frozen strawberries and water; bring to a boil. Cook on low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and bubbles. Remove from heat and stir in fresh strawberries & lemon juice. Remove from heat and set aside.

Discard ends of bread and slice remaining loaf into 1-inch slices. Cut a pocket from the top about halfway down into each slice. In a small bowl combine almond extract with cream cheese; stuff a spoonful of this into each pocket. Whisk together eggs, cream, milk, cinnamon and vanilla. Soak bread slices on both sides in egg mixture. Brown in skillet with melted butter. Place on serving plates and top with strawberry sauce.

Helpful Tips:

The loaf of bread can vary in size so you may need to divide up the cream cheese mixture according to how many slices you will get. This is very rich but tastes so wonderful.
